Do you live in a tiny studio apartment or are tight for space in your home? I am looking at YOU!! I have JUST the thing that will transform your life - ESPECIALLY if you work from home! And the best thing? It’s gonna be super cheap and so easy to make!
I was sent the coolest little side table which transforms into a work desk and I immediately knew I just HAD to make it!
What did I use?
But most importantly, HOW did I do it?!
1. Take your board of wood and cut out all the dimensions (using the plans you can find on my Patreon!). This will make the build SO simple, you will think it’s just an IKEA build!
2. Next, add four little wheels to the piece of wood that will be the bottom of the desk.
3. Using your angle tool, screw the side boards to the bottom piece with the wheels on, and then add the top bit to make a box!
4. We are working inside out, so that box is the one that will wheel out of the bigger one… so; now it’s time to make the box that will make up the sideboard! Screw each of the boards together to make the bigger box, and make sure to use a tool to make the screws invisible once it’s done! It’s the little touches, baby!
5. Now put the two together and make sure they fit and that the wheels roll out as you want them to! You might need to add little feet if it doesn’t slide out exactly as smoothly as you like!
6. As cool as this build is so far, we need to make the actual desk!! So, you’ll need to grab some hinges and secure the piece of wood that you’ll use for the desk to the inside box so it hangs down when it’s not in use.
7. Here is the trickiest bit of this build: making the area that the desk will roll down inside the sideboard when it’s closed. This took me a little while to work out, but you know I got there! SO, basically, you need to make a groove within the inside of the side boards of the outer box. To do this, use a router so you cannot see the hole on the outside (I used a jigsaw as I didn’t have a router at the time!). Then just add little nails on the outside of the desk board, so it slides nicely along the groove when the table is opened and closed!
8. At this point, go back over all the marks you’ve made on the wood and add in wood filler to make it look sparkling and smooth!
9. Then sand the whole thing and paint it a b-e-a-utiful colour!
10. Finally, add a little handle, and voila!! All done!
