SO many people asked me to do this one, so you just know it’s gonna be good… that’s right, I finally tacked the tile table! It went viral on Pinterest, and I think practically everyone in the world had it pinned on their boards! (I know I did!) How could I resist? I love this one so much because it’s so customisable - you can make it whatever size and colour you want to fit your home!
What do you need?
Time to make it!
1. So, I’m gonna go through the whole process that covers making the table from scratch, but if you already have one and you’re upcycling it, you can skip to step five. Step one is to decide what size you want your table to be!
2. Then you need to measure it on the wood and cut it! There are a few things to remember here, though. When you calculate the height you want your table, remember to minus the thickness of the wood you are using otherwise it won’t fit together properly! Also, of your four sides, two have to be slightly narrower in width - by the thickness of the wood again - than the other two (for the same reason).
3. A cheat code for measuring the top panel of the table? Use the tiles as a template!
4. Now you can put your table together with your drill, screws, and hinges! Remember to put the narrower pieces of wood on the inside of the thicker ones so it makes an even square shape!
5. The next step is to cover the entire table in adhesive… use the correct tool for this so that you get the grooves in the glue (this will mean the tiles stick better)!
6. Follow that up by applying your tiles - I love this bit because we can finally see the project coming together!
7. It’s grout time, baby! And this bit is super fun because I decided to make my grout colourful to give the table an even funkier look! If you do the same, add the colour pigment to the grout when you’re mixing it together! So, go ahead and cover the ENTIRE table in the colourful grout mixture!
8. Then the FINAL step is to wash the excess grout off the tiles! Use a cloth with water and carefully wipe the whole table down until the grout is only in between the tiles and not on it… watch your masterpiece come alive!
And VOILA! How exciting is that?! I love how this one comes together slowly at first and then all at once at the end! It makes it so fun. I hope you love your table as much as I loved creating it!
