Welcome back to another DIY tutorial on how to make super, amazing, incredible creations that would usually cost WAY too much to buy! I take these ideas and figure out EXACTLY how to make them so you don’t have to! Then all you need to do is watch my YouTube videos or read my blogs to see how to make them!
This time we are going to make the most amazing, creative light I have EVER seen… It’s a CLOUD! Like literally a floating cloud light! WHAT?!
What do you need?
What are you waiting for? Let’s make a cloud light!
1. The first step in this project is maybe the biggest decision of all … how BIG do you want your cloud?! I think the minimum width should be around 50cm to make it significant in your room, but you can make it as big or as small as you like (I went super big because I LOVED it)!
2. Once you’ve made your decision, cut your wood to that size.
3. Then you need to decide how deep and how high you want your cloud to be… ideally the depth and height should be the same size. When you have that number, cut four pieces of wood to that length!
4. Nail two of the smaller pieces towards each end of the long stick, then (this time using wood nails) nail the second two pieces onto those first sticks at a right angle. It should look like this:
5. Now, it’s gonna get fun! It’s WAY easier to make this when it’s already hung, so work out where you want your cloud to go, and use some string to hang the wooden structure in that place!
6. (At this point, you might want to go over the structure with some more string to make sure you’re happy it’s secure.)
7. Get the lights, baby! This is such an exciting bit! Okay, so you’re gonna want to check the lights work first, so do that.
8. Then get to work wrapping the lights around the wooden structure ALL over it (remember to keep the end that needs to be plugged in out of the cloud).
9. Now tie some string between each of the top ends of the wooden structure and each of the bottom ends - this will help in the cloud-making!
10. Literally cover every single surface with glue at this stage! Put glue EVERYWHERE!
11. Then cover the ENTIRE thing in cotton! As you go, you can add more glue on top of the cotton to add more cotton to the cotton… does that make sense? Cotton everywhere! Keep going until your cloud is as big as you want it!
And you’re done! How fun was that?! I am OBSESSED with this light, and I can’t wait to use it. I hope you love it, too!
