Once upon a time, I saw the most beautiful little donut couch, and I just KNEW I needed it in my life… but it was $3,600! WHAT?! I have spent SO LONG trying to figure out how to make this DIY-style, and then one day, I walked past a tire on the side of the road, and I was INSPIRED!
That’s right, today, I am going to show you how you can create your very own version of Sabine Marcelis’ Donut Couch!!
What do you need?
Let’s get DIYing:
1. I never thought I’d use a tire to make a couch, but here we are!! First thing first, clean that tire as well as you can - get into all the nooks and crannies!
2. Get your rolls of foam and cover the whole tire like… a million times! If you cut the foam into sections and then cut a slit into each section in the middle, it will fold over so much easier and neater! You want it to be so soft and comfy because, after all - you’re gonna be chilling on this!
3. Once that’s done, get your spray glue. For this, you 100% need to cover your nose and mouth because that stuff is toxic! Very generously cover the entire foam-covered tire with glue.
4. Go around the entire tire with the soft cushiony material and stick every single bit down so it is nice and secure. Once you’ve done one side, turn the tire over (maybe with the help of someone because those things are heavy!) and do the other side.
5. Time for my least favourite thing in the world… sewing! Unfortunately, it’s the only way, but it’s so worth it! SO, this is what I did: place the tire on its side, then section by section, wrap the fabric around the whole tire, and secure it in the middle with pins. Once the whole thing is done, you can go through and sew where the pins are.
The great news is once the sewing is completed, you are DONE! The donut is finished, and you now have the coolest couch ever! Well done, and I hope you love yours as much as I love mine!
