I get my ideas from ALL over the place: sometimes you guys send me challenges, sometimes I see a build project when it’s gone viral, and sometimes I see furniture in person that I just HAVE to have. That’s exactly what happened this time. I went to a gallery and saw this, which took over my HEART!
So, today we are going to create a DIY raffia mirror, and let me tell you guys - this was SO easy, you’re gonna love it!
What do you need:
That’s literally it! How is that possible? Let me show you:
1. First up, get your mirror and lie it down on a flat surface.
2. Now get some string - we need to create the frame that we’re going to tie the raffia to. SO, basically, wrap some string from the top of the mirror to the bottom three times, each time tying a little knot at the top. Do the same for the other side.
3. Then do the same across the top and the bottom, but make sure to weave it in between the lines you already put in place.
4. Ready to make some pompoms? That’s exactly how we’re going to make the first type of raffia wraps (that’s right, there are two types). For this, I used a book, but you can use whatever you have handy for you. Basically, take your book and wrap the raffia round it around 15-20 times.
5. Next, slide the strands off and use another piece of raffia to tie around the middle, then get a pair of scissors and cut every loop on both ends so it looks spiky! Do this until you have enough to cover the top third and the bottom border of the mirror.
6. When they’re all done, use the extra string from the strand you used to tie around the middle to tie them all to the mirror to make it look as fluffy and big as you want!
7. Then it’s time to make the second kind of raffia sets. To do this, start in the same way, wrapping the raffia around the book. But this time, when you tie it, do so at one end instead of in the middle. Then just cut the loops on the opposite end to where you tied.
8. Tie them to the string on the mirror in the same way, making sure the spiky side is facing down.
You won’t believe this… you’re done!! Have you ever done a DIY project that was SO easy?! Literally, there is nothing left to do, just hang your mirror in your home and enjoy how it transforms your room into a boho paradise!
